My journey starts with me wanting to become a surgeon. My father is a pediatric surgeon and he used to let me watch recorded tapes of his surgeries when I was only 5 years old. It was so impressing and fascinating that they immediately replaced Tom & Jerry. Thirteen years later I was admitted at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova and so my story begins.
It was my third year of Medical School during my surgical rotations when I first watched a surgery live. It was an emergency surgery, a case of peritonitis that lasted 5 hours, from 9pm to 2am. I was completely stunned to see for the first time in my life what I used to watch on my Dad’s tapes, the human body from the inside. It was absolutely AMAZING! I was speechless! We were a whole group of medical students and after about 3 or four hours everyone left except me, I wanted to see everything. From the first cut to the last stich. After that experience, I was deeply in love. In love with everything that has to do with surgery. I started going to conferences, present scientific papers studied on real surgical cases to doctors from all over the world, some for which I was awarded. I became an active participant and trainer in the Surgical Society of Students of Romania, learning basic surgical skills on animals, mostly pigs and training international students to perform the same. Everything was going according to the plan until one day when I experienced my first panic attack. If you’ve ever experienced one you know what I am talking about but for those who haven’t I will describe it in a few words – a sudden episode of intense fear of losing your life that triggers severe physical reactions like shortness of breath or the feeling of being unable to breath.
Life was never the same after that one episode. It changed everything in my life. I became afraid of being by myself, travelling, being social, going to school, sleeping, every single thing was causing me anxiety. It was my birthday when my sister came to me and said ” You need help! My gift for you for your birthday is a session with a psychologist I found and heard very good things about! Just go and try it!” and so I went.
My life changed completely after working with her and I want to thank Laura Maria Cojocaru for helping me find the root cause of my panic attacks ( conventional doctors told me to take antidepressants), for helping me rediscover myself and understand myself and all of my choices up to that point. She supported and empowered me to be the best version of myself and made me see that I am the director of my life not the actor. And that I can achieve whatever I want to achieve and do whatever I need to do to make myself happy without having any feelings of guilt because at the end of the day you cannot give anything to anyone if you are empty.
After 3 years of working with her I was a completely new person, feeling happier and healthier than ever. I learned so much about our mind and how it works. How the thoughts affect our body’s biology and how a simple change in the arrangement of words can change your mindset and empower you to make that positive change. I learned that we only receive and understand 25% of what the other person is saying and learning how to actively listen can positively impact any relationship you decide to have. I studied Neuro-Lingustic Programming and learned how we often follow learned behaviors / ” programs” without being aware and live on autopilot which can create a lot of frustration that we can’t really tell where it’s coming from. I learned how to access my subconscious and turn negative limiting beliefs into positive ones. After all this wave of information and practice, surgery was less fascinating as I found out listening to people is far more interesting than cutting them and that Medicine is really only one slice of the Health and Wellness pie.
I became very interested in finding more and more about everything that is connected to us and our health as I felt confused when I discovered that Medicine doesn’t have all the answers. Food is by far one of the most important aspects of health as it builds the foundation for everything else and food was something we didn’t even talked about while in Medical School. After graduating I enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition Health Coaching Program ( New York) and expanded my understanding of all the aspects that contribute to our health such – food, sleep, relationships, physical activity, stress, water, oxygen, joy. I also studied highly effective coaching techniques, how to explore basic improvements and implement gradual changes.
How can I help YOU?
Coming from a medical background after studying General Medicine, Integrative Nutrition, Neuro linguistic Programming and Functional Medicine, I understand health and wellness at a biochemical, psychological, spiritual and nutritional level and I can offer you my knowledge, experience, and support to help you thrive in your life again by finding your true unique balance.
Most doctors believe in fixing and treating disease separately by filling a prescription for each symptom.
And while the medication is a necessity and a lifesaver in many cases it’s only one slice of the Health & Wellness pie and it can sometimes become the enemy if used chronically.
My health and wellness philosophy is simple – eat real food, prioritize self-care, have healthy relationships, enjoy life and move naturally. What does all this mean? It means redefining your story around all aspects of your life. It’s balancing work and life. It’s connecting with mother nature and dipping your toes in the sand. It’s figuring out what makes YOU happy and doing more of that! The mind and the body are inextricably connected. What affects one affects the other. Choosing to stay in a job that is stressing you will have a direct impact on your digestion and immune system. Choosing to stay in a toxic relationship will affect your eating habits which in turn affects your mental, physical and emotional health. The body follows the mind but so does the mind.
I teach my health methods to anyone who is looking for more than a pill as an answer. For anyone who believes in nature, healing and the body’s unique wisdom. For those who are ready to take over and devote themselves to living a life filled with laughter, good sleep, positive beliefs, nutrient rich foods, fun enjoyable movement and fulfilling relationships.
I want the best for people and have a genuine passion for health and wellness. Here you will often see me sharing my journey with you and you will never see me recommend something I don’t believe in or haven’t used. From my own wellness journey and that of my coaching clients I can tell you what I see time and again. REAL food that is high in nutrients provides a foundation for health and wellness. But the pinnacle for long term health and happiness is embedded in positive thoughts and lifestyle changes.
