America are si dezavantaje, Romania are si parti frumoase, Grecia are plaje superbe, Italia are o bucatarie delicioasa.

Surpriza! Ce se afla in tine se va afla in tine si in alta tara!

Zi frumoasa iti doresc!

Morning thoughts about the best country in the world

While I am sipping on my arabic hot coffee infused with flavors and memories, I remember the conversation I had yesterday with my parents about patriotism.
The majority of people that I have met love their country, not only that but also they see it as the perfect one especially when they don’t live in it anymore. I have been part of a lot of conversations in which each of us argued why his country is the best, the most beautiful; why romanians are the smartest, lebanese are the most nice dressed, palestinians have the most kind soul and so on. I remember that every time my turn came to say something about it, I didn’t feel like taking part of a specific country, I felt I belong to more then one place, one country. Now looking at my life in a retrospective way I realize that this happens to me because I grew up in more then one world. What I use to see as disadvantage, wishing to be like all the people around me ( belong to one place), I know see how many benefits this brought to my life. I am able to understand that people are different, have different ways of aproaching life.

Just as flowers, trees are different, we are as well different. I know, for me its tough sometimes too, to be aware of my individuality and unicity; a lot of factors are implied in this situation, starting from the education we get from our parents, the school we go to, the environment we grow up into, to the society we live in. My point is that just like we, humans, are different, countries are too. Each country has its own beauty, its own sparkle, its own buildings, streets ( my dad sometimes tells me how he misses even the way buildings are in Lebanon, their style, their colour). It is wrong to compare two countries just like it’s wrong to compare people. It is stupid to say that USA it’s perfect, that Romania sucks, Greece is too crowded, Italy is dirty, etc. USA has some big disadvantages, Romania has beautiful gorgeous places, Greece has the most wonderful beaches and Italy its known for its delicious foood. And also what you would like I might not like, what I would see as an advantage in a country, maybe you would see it as a disadvantage. This labeling, this description we do of a person or a place using a single word is stupid, it is so limitant. Think about this, think about how often you do this especially with the people around you ( friends, family).

I look at patriotic people and I see that what attaches them to their country so much is the memories they have there, especially the ones that left their country to live somewhere else. When they are there, they don’t like their country, they see and talk only about the ” empty half of the glass”, but once they leave they start seeing the beauty in it and they miss it so much. Being so sad about not being ” home” in their country anymore, that they wanted to leave from in the first place, they can’t see the beauty in the place they are now; every place has its good parts only if you have eyes for them. This kind of people never find joy and peace wherever they go. I thought too that the sadness, annoyance ” caused” by the system and the country I was living in, will vanish once I leave. Surpriseee! What lies within you will be there even if you move to the Moon, because its in you, it has nothing to do with the country/ people you are living in/with. So yea, if you are sad, angry, agitated, you will be like that wherever you go. Thats why its good for you to travel, so you can realize that it is only your fault for the way you are feeling, not your country, not your family, not your friends or other external factors. You are responsible!

It is so easy to be patriotic from faraway, love your country when you are not there, to apreciate a person after you lose her/him, but the real question is how many of us apreciate and love what we have now, in this moment?

Think about it!
I wish you have a wonderful day! čîŞ
